PRINTING SYSTEMS
We have always said that the key for us is to offer a complete solution to our customers. As our customers´needs are different, we have divided our offer into systems that we then customize for each plant needs.

DCOS Drive & control systems Every printing press needs a drive and control system to be functional. The choice of partner and solution is decisive: the profitability, reliability and quality of your printing press and what it produces will mainly depend upon the automation package you select. The drive and control system is the backbone of every automation solution.
DCOS has designed a concept that covers the complexity of a modern printing press and also allows the system to be flexible enough to handle all kinds of retrofit projects with a mix of different machines-types and auxiliary equipment used in the printing process. The structure of the system is built to handle all types of options and individualities. With a mix of centralized and de-centralized intelligence, scalability becomes almost endless, from the small system with just one motor to the big press with hundreds of motors and options.
The system is module-based, each new module being carefully tested by the technicians in a controlled environment; the modules can be mixed to match the exact type of configuration required.
In the design we have taken advantage of the long-term knowledge DCOS has of building robust and reliable control-systems. By choosing proven parts from well-known suppliers we make sure our systems will be reliable and future-proof.
In our selection of suppliers we focus on finding partners with worldwide coverage in knowledge and parts. We also confirm that the parts we choose will be available on the market for an acceptable period of time. The aim is also to maximize the number of “off-the-shelf parts”, produced in large series and available worldwide, that the end costumer is not dependent on the system designer to supply spare parts.
DRCS inspection systems DRCS is a closed-loop inspection system developed in-house for the offset printing industry. It operates together with the other DCOS systems as well as a standalone application. DRCS has been developed for three main purposes, reducing start-up waste, maintaining good quality and reducing ink consumption during a complete production run.
The DRCS inspection system includes different scanning products for various applications and purposes. The system is designed to search, find and analyze specific printed register patterns in order to measure and evaluate deviations in the printed product online, immediately after the print.
The DRCS products have been developed by a unique technology that provides market-leading performance when it comes to rapidity of finding marks and measuring resolution. The system is designed for web speeds of up to 20m/s. As the competition on the market grows, DCOS stand in the frontline and offer designed products with excellent performance. Our focus is to increase customer efficiency and lower costs with an intelligent closed-loop inspection system.

Dcos operator interface systems The DCOS control console is the logical place for the operator to control and overview the printing process in an efficient, reliable and user-friendly way. It gives the operator access to adjustments and an overview of all the systems in the DCOS customized printing solution, as well as many external systems.
DCOS control console
The DCOS control console has been developed as a one-man operating station. It can be configured with various options depending on the customer’s needs and what equipment is to be controlled. The ergonomic design allows the operator to easily adjust height and angular working posture by a simple touch. Multiple consoles can be installed and used together or individually by targeting a specific part of the machine. The desks are not dependent on each other and can be used on a completely standalone basis.
Press Interface (HMI)
The user interface for the printing process is operated from a 23” touch screen that provides the operator with options to control and make adjustments to the product currently being printed. Information, status and alarms will inform the operator about current conditions. The software has several different modules that can be enabled depending on the features installed on the press. Multi-language support is natively built into the interface.
Softproofing
Softproofing is a technique that allows the operator to view on a monitor what the print should look like when it appears on paper. Two different proofing alternatives are available:
Content proof – A standard monitor is used for proofing the pages.
Color proof – A color-calibrated monitor is used for proofing the pages with high-quality color intent.
The Information module in DCOS software platform provides data exchange and reports regarding production data based on inputs from the press, its subsystems and the operators. The system is designed to generate as much production information as possible, while minimizing the required manual input. This information can be viewed onscreen, exported into various file formats or printed on paper as production reports.
General reports
General reports contains production information such as counters, timestamps, and stop causes. The system can be detailed configured from the customer requirements on what should be included from the available information. The customer can also choose various triggers when the reports should be created and what timeframe should be included. As an example, one report can be generated after each production in conjunction with one report for day shift and one for the night. This also makes it easy to setup weekly and monthly reports. Reports can be exported in various formats such as PDF, XML, CSV.
Quality reports
For customers that are using DCOS inspection systems additional quality reports can be generated. These reports contains detailed information about the measured quality during production. Examples of information that can be found in this report is deviations in color register, cutoff register and ink density. The amount and type of information depend on what inspection systems that are available.
Services
A REST based service is available for fetching current status and production data from the control system. Exchange of data is very interoperable as it’s based on HTML with embedded XML data. This data can be used by the customer or 3rd party to build custom report system or to tie information together to an external system. Data fetch by the service is live and up to date for every request, there is also an option to request data for productions that already have been produced. A lightweight webserver is included that can be used from a normal web browser to view the current status for each folder. This gives a quick overview of the folders status, indicates what’s produced right now.
